The first try

I was excited about my first formal interview.

I remember clearly one of her questions was: what is the difference do you think working here and working in China. I said: here is more difficult because I need to build up my reputation myself.

That is my true feeling. I had some short working experience before, and the reason I could have those jobs simply because I was recommended. Actually I always doubt any company could be interested in me, because I feel I am nothing special. Why not they find somebody smarter than me, working harder than me, or even just slimmer than me?

That is the reality. My strategy is to try my best, and leave the rest. Another one is hoping for the best but expecting the worst, which makes it easy to get inspired by a little progress. So I gained confidence with being interviewed. I am happy that I am valuable under some circumstance.

However, the result is negative. The worse thing is I don’t know what’s wrong there, which means I don’t know how to improve. I felt it was ok indeed. We talked about daily life, my master thesis, and my future plans. How to estimate if a candidate is the right one the interviewer wants through those common topics? I wish I could know, but I really have no clue. What I know so far is I am not the one this time.

Then was the exam period, and I needed to read and prepare for the exams, so my job searching speeded down. Like the other failures happen in life, I am not that lucky to get a job through the very first interview. So just keep going on.
